Electric Guitar Archive

Below

Here we have some of my work between the ages of 18 and ~23. I spent these years being the artist for Keith Roscoe of Roscoe Guitars in Greensboro NC. I hand painted these guitars shown below as well a many more of which I do not have photos. I used mainly archival inks made in Germany by Rotring. Any person that owns a hand painted guitar by me that does not see your guitar here feel free to send photos and I will post them. Past the age of 23 I decided to start actually hand making acoustic guitars and from time to time make one. These are rare indeed as I only so far have made a few. The link to the acoustic section is at the bottom of this page.

Pictured here is the very first guitar I painted for Keith Roscoe, I was 18 years old.
Here is a random selection of some Roscoe Guitars I painted from 1986 to around 1993.
Many customers of Keiths requested paintings of their girlfriends faces or wives faces on their guitar so that was a popular thing once they saw how good the painting could be.
Below is a fun photo I took of Keith sitting at his desk in the shop on Tate Street back in 1988. Pictured in the background are guitars and bass guitars I painted.

Here I am painting what ended up being my personal guitar in the paint booth at Keith’s shop on Tate Street.
Here Pete and I were delivering a custom ordered Roscoe to CC Deville of the band Poison that I painted. I am the one taking this picture so I am not in it, but on the other side.

Here is another fun picture. I again am behind the camera taking this shot and not in the photo. Pictured here is my long time friend Holly Cooper (sister of actor Bradley Cooper) hanging out at the shop on Tate Street with us (Keith, myself and the gang, Pete is seen in the background). Lots of friends would come by the shop and hang out on a regular basis. How did we get any work done you say, well, we worked until midnight.
Here we see Jay Speetjens, the master woodworker that was in charge of handling the tooling and cutting of the bodies and necks sitting on the floor of the Tate Street shop. Photo taken by me around 1988ish.
This guitar below is a very early Roscoe. The photo which I took with a cheap snap and shoot film camera  was dated 1987. This fat horned body was prior to the updated  body Keith and I designed which is seen in the majority of the photos here.
Here I am holding the very second guitar I painted for Keith. I am 18 years old. Photo taken by Keith Roscoe.
Here is a guitar I painted which ended up on page ten of the introduction of the book “American Guitars…an Illustrated History”
Here is a bass I painted by request from Hank Williams III (son of Hank Williams Jr. son of Hank Williams). This was a one off hand made body made by Keith Roscoe.

More

There are dozens and dozens more Roscoe guitars out there I have painted. Here on these archives pages are just a few of them. As owners send in pictures of theirs not seen here I will post them.

Now we will view a few random selections of other manufactures of which I was the contract artist including the ESP Guitar Company.
Let us start out with a few I did for Michael Wilton and Chris DeGarmo of the band Queensryche.

Seen in the gallery are pictures of them holding each and then pictures I took of me painting some of them on my art bench, these were done early 1990’s.

Here is a photo of my studio as it was in the 1990’s and here is a rack I used to hold a few bodies as I was painting them. If you look at this photo you will see one body that I painted to look like sections of watermelon. Dweezil Zappa (son of Frank Zappa) asked me to paint this for him.
Here is a picture of George Lynch of the band Dokken holding a guitar I painted for him. You can see other pictures I took during the painting process along the way.
Here we have another guitar I hand painted for George Lynch of the band Dokken. I painted three of these, all three were hand carved.
This is a guitar I hand painted for Kirk Hammett of the band Metallica. As seen in a few photos the guitar body on my paint easel.
Here are two guitars I painted for Bruce Kulick of the band KISS. He was an indorced performer for ESP and so he asked to have a few painted with the Statute of Liberty as seen in these photos and then he wanted me to paint one with his wife on it. Both of these pieces are here in photos.
A random selection of ESP guitars I painted, early 1990’s.
This one was a special request from Brian Wheat of the band Tesla. He wanted me to paint the Wheaties box on his ESP bass.

There are again, dozens more ESP guitars out there I have painted. As people send in photos of theirs I will post them.
